Nokia inks 1Bn $ Deal with Airtel for 4G and 5G.

India's leading telecom service provider Bharti Airtel and Finish Network equipment manufacturer Nokia have formally announced 1 Billion USD multi year agreement deal to enhance network capabilities of Airtel in India.

With increasing price based competition from Reliance Jio since couple of years, Airtel is gearing up for the next level of telecom battle by preparing itself for the next generation of telecom waves. With this billion dollar deal, Nokia would be the key supplier of network equipments to bolster Airtel's network capabilities to make it ready for enhanced 4G experience and readiness for 5G capabilities.

Under this deal, Nokia would be helping the telecom company setup its network infrastructure in 9 telecom circles in India. It plans to deploy 300,000 radio units across the circles. It plans to serve multiple spectrum bands which would include the common spectrums like 900 Mhz, 1800 MHz, 2100 Mhz and 2300 Mhz band.

The project is expected to be completed by 2022 and Nokia would also provide its Single RAN technology to Airtel for better network planning and optimization. This shall help the telecom company to monitor its network more effectively via a cloud based delivery platform provided by Nokia.

With the roll out of 5G technology, data services would improve drastically because of its low latency and high speed communication. This shall open up various use cases like IoT, VoIP, Connected Vehicles, etc because of low latency transmission of heavy data. In the recent couple of years, India has witnessed a steep increase in the usage of data services which requires the telecom service providers to stay equipped for the increase in data usage loads in order to maintain a good user experience on their networks.
