Starlink Internet services to go fully mobile by the end of 2021

SpaceX CEO, Elon Musk said that Starlink’s Internet services would go fully mobile by the end of 2021. This means you can use the internet services even if you are moving on your vehicle or truck. Currently Starlink is offering its beta program where users can access its services only from the location it was initially installed due to the limited number of satellites deployed at the moment. The beta program was launched in 2020 and it is expected to offer full-fledged services by the end of 2021 by adding more satellites in the Low Earth orbit. The company plans to come out of beta by the summer of 2021.

At the moment Starlink has already deployed 1200+ satellites in the earth’s orbit and it plans to deploy 12000 satellites to provide full coverage. Currently this services promises a speed of 50-150 Mbps and is being planned to increase it to 300 Mbps once it completes deploying additional satellites.  Starlink plans to rollout its services in India by 2022 and currently offering its beta program for a refundable deposit of $99.

The company has been working hard to improve the design of the satellites to reduce latency, improve bandwidth and to reduce any kind of service downtime. In some earlier tests, it was able to offer even 175 Mbps top speed even in extreme cold and snowy weather conditions.

Since earlier last week, Starlink has started facing certain regulatory hurdles in India while it is trying to sell its beta version in India for $99 fully refundable deposit. As per the report, Broadband India forum had written to Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) and Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) to stop allowing Starlink to do so in India.

Evidently as per the report, Starlink is said to be not having its own earth station in India or any authorization for Satellite frequency to offer services in India yet. Since it is non-compliant as per the telecom guidelines in India, the body requested urgent intervention to maintain fair competition and adherence to government policies and regulations.
